Lynth Update #11

I’ve been scrambling to try to pull together as many layout+blocking shots as possible as fast as possible. I was hoping to have more done by now but with only two of us working on it, it’s been challenging to keep up with. I’ve been prioritizing getting later scenes where the Lynth is present first because those will be shots that will require more VFX, so I want to try to make sure we get those shots moving along as fast as possible. I also found some problems with the form 4 Lynth rig that our rigger was able to remedy quite quickly because he’s a beast. It’s not completed yet and still has a couple kinks to fix but it can still be used for some starting work nonetheless. I’ve been enjoying getting to do creature work with the Lynth and am definitely finding challenge in trying to figure out ways to make it move that will give it the vibe we’re hoping to get across. I’m also being reminded of just how bad I am at the cinematography aspect of film making. Framing things in a nice way is so hard.

We have finally gotten other team members to get up and start doing some layout as well so with luck we will have that all complete by the upcoming Wednesday. That way we can get all of the layout/blocking shots playblasted and compiled by the end of the week so we can look it over and see what’s not working. It’s looking much more achievable now than it did previously. We also have a few more people set dressing the environment and setting up lighting so that our Unreal Engine scene is ready for animation imports and more complex render tests.

I’ve been feeling a lot of frustration over a lot of issues with a lack of communication and initiative from a few members of the team and I’m hoping making some structural changes will help to get the workload more balanced. I haven’t known how to address the issues of people neglecting to do tasks or taking on things they aren’t equipped to handle but after getting some advice I think we can get on the right track so we don’t have 4 people drowning in work and not sleeping while the others coast along and just chill. I appreciate that one of them has at least realized and admitted that they are slacking and will hopefully start to pick up a little bit but the others have been making up excuses and giving fake answers as to what they’ve been doing. But with some structural changes I think that will be fixed now. Or at least I hope so. Being able to sleep again would be nice.

I’ve also been receiving lots of updates from one of the film festivals we are hoping to submit our film to. They’ve been giving me updates about ticket info and location stuff as well as important viewing info that’s more relevant to us. I was able to confirm the latest time we could hand them our film file as well as how many tickets they would supply us with-given our film is selected into the festival. I also learned that they’ve had a submission from Canada which is both great for them that it’s now an international festival but also a little anxiety inducing. I do definitely hope we can get our film up and running in time to submit, it’d be cool to enter as many festivals as possible.
